An engine timing belt connects the crankshaft at the bottom of the engine with the camshafts at the top of the cylinder head, ensuring that everything moves at the same time. If the timing belt fails the engine will stop, and in some vehicles the lack of a functioning timing belt can cause expensive engine damage.
Vehicle manufacturers typically recommend replacing it every 90,000-120,000km, or after six to seven years. The vehicle’s service manual will include a recommended service schedule listing when the timing belt should be changed.
The average timing belt replacement cost starts around the $500 mark, and can increase to over $1000, depending on the vehicle and engine type. Please contact us for a more detailed quote. It is worth noting, that because this service is so intensive, it is also recommended to inspect other parts that also may need replacing whilst the motor is such a stripped down stage making cheaper items much more affordable to replace. For example: items like the tensioner, idler arm, water pump, drive belts, seals and any gaskets that may be leaking.
